Pray for Israel You Tube

Quote of the Day

"If a man is called to be a streetsweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven played music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great streetsweeper who did his job well."
-Martin Luther King

  And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Col 3:23

Pray for the Peace of Jersalem

Praying for the peace of Israel.
Remember the promise of Abba to Abram:  “I will bless those who bless you and I will curse those who curse you… (Gen. 12:3).”   Israel is being literally encompassed about by her enemies and the age old issue is land…who does it belong to??  Abba said He placed His name there (2 Chron. 6:6) and declared that it belonged to Israel but prophecy says that when men attempt to divide the land of Israel, Abba will stretch forth His hand against everyone who has come against her ( Joel 3:2), this is also known as “the day of the LORD” in scripture ( Zeph. 1:14-15,
Joel 2:1, Zec. 14:2 and others).  But no matter what, we know...
Psa 102:13  Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.

Shelf Life of Herbs

When Do Herbs & Spices Give Up the Ghost?

How and how long to store them.

If you happen to be keeping herbs on hand for either seasoning or medicinal purposes such as for making tinctures, salves, teas or poultices here is a guide to follow for storage.   Of coarse, the best thing to do is make your tinctures and salves as soon as possible but because you sometimes will want the herb in its dried form you will need to store it.
For more info.

Shelf life varies from one herb to another. A powdered herb will lose its properties much faster than a whole or cut herb. Those with volatile oils like peppermint will lose their freshness much sooner than those without the oils.  Roots have the longest shelf life as they are much denser than flowers and leaves.
In general, keep the herbs in air-tight containers, as cool as possible, and don't expose them to light unless in use.
The good news is, spices do not spoil. The bad news is, they lose their strength. What is interesting is that a lot of cookbook writers tell you to purge your pantry once an herb or spice is about 6 months old. But the spice companies — among them behemoth McCormick and specialty splicer Penzeys — are not so reckless. They tell you to keep and use the spices as long as they appear to have flavor — and they trust you to be able to tell!
Stored in an airtight container, in a cool, dry place, spices retain their potency longer than you'd think — as long as 4 years for whole spices, 2 to 3 years for ground spices, and 1 to 3 years for leafy herbs, depending on the herb. Whole peppercornsnutmegs and cinnamon sticks hold on to their flavor for ages. Particularly potent whole spices, such as clovescumin, and cardamom will also last for a long, long time.
Herbs lose their flavor faster than spices. Dried herbs that have no color and no or very little smell when crumbled in the palm of your hand are probably too old for practical use. Yet even if they don't look all that green anymore, but still have some oomph when crumbled in your hand, use them freely.
For ground spices, shake the jar, let it settle, and give a sniff. If there's essentially no smell, it should be tossed out. If the spices have a bit of fragrance left but are not as potent as you remember or think they should be, just use more in the recipe. Then you'll run out sooner and have a reason to start fresh with a new batch.
Of paramount importance in getting the most flavor and value out of your herbs and spices is to store them well — nowhere near the heat of the stove, nowhere near the humidity of the stove or dishwasher, nowhere bright and sunny. But don't get the idea that putting them in the freezer is ideal, either. Condensation will be a problem each time the bottle comes out of the freezer and is likely to introduce moisture in the spices. Similarly, don't ever shake herbs or spices out of the bottle directly into something you're cooking — that's the quickest way possible to steam and despoil your spices.

The Bulk Herb Store is a good resource for bulk herbs and lots of info. On how to use them.  I purchase many herbs from them.

Day of Preparation is here again

Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy.
Ex. 20:8

Yay, it's almost here!
The sun is getting low in the sky as we near the end of "the Day of Preparation."  It has been a warm, sunny winter day today as we have gone through our preparations for Sabbath.  I like the picture above of the sun setting over the hills.  It looks so peaceful like the beginning of Sabbath...beautiful.
Each of us look forward the day of preparing because at its end, will begin a time when we will be together for rest and study, scripture, eating food and usually getting together with others.  It is a time that is separate from the other days of the week when we don’t plan to do “business” as usual and we all look forward to that.
Sabbath is a day each week that is intended to remind us of our return to the place that Abba created us to be in, the garden that was prepared for His creation to be forever.  Sabbath is a wonderful reminder and a sign, of the promise that one day we will return to a place of perfect, eternal rest where death will not follow.  It is a lesson in how we are to walk each day in a place of perfect rest (trust) in Abba, knowing His plan is always on time and always perfect for His purpose.  He’s a great teacher isn’t He!
Thank you Abba for your Sabbath that you have created for man…a gift that is a blessing for all time.
Exo. 16:23  And he said unto them, This is that which YHVH hath said, Tomorrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto YHVH: bake that which ye will bake today, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remains over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

Here is a pic of our Sabbath roast in the crock with potatoes and carrots.  I also made a pumpkin pie for desert and have a stew prepared for the Sabbath meal at our study.  No one should be hungryJ

Thank you Abba, for this day and all you have provided.

Amien!

May your Sabbath be filled with peace and good company!

Remember

Remembering grandma Betty
12/14/1924-01/23/2009

Precious in the sight of YHVH is the death of His saints.

Ps.116:15
Teach us to number our days, and let us bring our heart to wisdom.
Ps. 90:12

I had planned to have a meal last Sunday to remember the anniversary of Grandma’s death but we had a new addition to our family just a few days before (Thank you Abba!) and things were a little hectic so I decided it best to set it aside for the time being.  I still wanted to do something to honor her memory but wasn’t quite sure what, so, this is what I came up with…A blog post.

I want to say that I haven’t forgotten my Grandmother and I still miss her.  Of the many, many blessings Abba has given me, she was one of the biggest and the best.  I know it’s easy to look back and think good things about people who are no longer with us but quite surely she helped mold my life by her prayers over me and her unending love.  My Grandma was a major part of my world.

It is interesting to consider how Abba does the things He does.  What I mean is, during the last few years of my Grandma’s life she was confined to her bed and near the end she couldn’t even feed herself her own meals.  She needed help with everything.  She had all her wits about her though.  That was one thing she told us she always asked Abba for…she just wanted to be able to think clearly, and He gave her that gift.  But the wildest thing is even though she needed so much, somehow near the end, I realized that it was she that was blessing me and not so much me who was blessing her.  When I look back on that it amazes me that Abba is able to give something back to you just because you made a little effort to do good for Him and His people.

Her life and death made me recognize some things in me that Abba needed (and is still working on) to change.  Fear was and sometimes still is a BIG one for me.  Abba let me see how fear hinders the path that He has laid before us.  Fear is a lack of Faith in His word and His plan for us and I had to ask Him to forgive me for that.  Then I was able to understand the true rest that He speaks of.  Rest in trusting all that He says is true and not just true for a time but TRUE FOR ALL TIME…scripture says:
He hath remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.
Ps. 105:12

If a generation is even just 40 years, a thousand generations can be no less than 40,000 years…so, His word is pretty much forever in earthly terms!

So, just as in life, my Grandma blessed me, her death also brought blessing of understanding my Heavenly Father and the awesomeness and depth of the kind of relationship Abba offers us as we learn to walk with Him in His Way.

Grandma truly did live the life of Jobe, especially in her last few years.  She was an inspiration as she lived in her faith to Abba’s word.  She chose to trust Him no matter how her body failed her, when many others may have given up because a healing didn’t come.

When things are going rough and when I am afraid, I remember her and how she held on to her trust in Abba and it helps me to try and do the same.  Thank you Abba for that example in my life.  Thank you for sending someone for me who would love me so wholeheartedly as Grandma did.
So, I remember (celebrate) her life and her death as she has moved from this life and stepped into her eternal home with the ONE who created all things…
I miss you, love you, and will always give thanks for you
Grandma.

I leave you with one of her favorite scriptures from the book of Jobe:
After this body is destroyed, yet in my flesh shall I see Elohiem.
Job 19:26

(Sorry, I couldn't resist;)

Thankful Heart

1Corinthinthians 7:3
And let the man render to his wife the kindness which is due; and so also the woman to her husband.
This is the desire of my heart, to love my husband and show him kindness.  There are days when I know I must seem ungrateful for all that he does for his family.  He works very hard each day to provide.  He is committed to us and he shows his love to us freely.
It is so important for me to remember to give Abba thanks for the blessing He has provided to me in giving me my husband.
1Thes. 5:18
And in everything be thankful for this is the will of Elohiem in Yahushuah the Messiah concerning you.
It can be so easy to take your eyes off of the provision that Abba has made to us and then soon become unthankful for what we do have, focusing on what we think we don’t have.  Our joy will always be found in offering thanksgiving to Abba for His perfect will in our lives.
Paul reminds us of this fact when he tells us that he has learned to be satisfied in whatever circumstance he finds himself placed by Abba.  Whether it be a time of prosperity or a time of need, he understood his strength was found in the provision that Abba has given in Yahushuah and that he had no need beyond that provision.
Phil. 4:11-13
…I have learned to make that satisfy me which I have.  I am able to be brought low and I am able to be brought high in everything; in all these things I am exercised (in my faith), both in prosperity and in famine, in abundance and in poverty.  I find strength for everything in Messiah who strengthens me.
I pray that this will be the offering of thanksgiving that I will bring to Abba as a sweet smell before Him.  His mercies to me are long and He has done me good all of my days.
Thank you Abba for teaching us “THE WAY” in which we should go that leads us to you.  Teach us to walk in (apply) it to each step we take that we might uphold your covenant because of our love for you and our thankfulness for all You do for your people.
Amien.

May your day be blessed as you seek your way in Yahushuah.

Scripture for the Day...Isaiah 43:1-3

Isaiah 43:1-3
Thus saith Yahuah that created thee, O Jacob and He that formed thee, O Israel, Fear  not:  for I have redeemed you, I have called you by My name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you:  Even through the rivers they shall not overflow thee.  And, when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon you.
For “I Am” Yahuah your Elohiem, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…

Papa goes to see Gracie

Papa couldn’t wait to get up to the hospital to see Gracie He called me on his way home to tell me he was headed to the hospital to see her.

Then he called me on his way home to tell me he got to pray and say a blessing over her.  He was so happy to be able to bless our little Gracie.

Abba is good.

Our New Baby

Here are a few more pics of
Gracie Elizabeth’s First day with us…

And these are Gracie's proud parents, Corey and Megan.

May your house be blessed with wisdom, peace and love, forever.

Interesting Dates in 2011

This year we will experience 4 unusual dates....
1/1/11,  1/11/11,  11/1/11,  11/11/11.

NOW figure this out.

Take the

last 2 digits of the year you were born in

plus the age you will be this year

and it WILL EQUAL .... 111!

The only one this didn’t work with is Caleb...his year of birth is 2000J
but it did equal 11 because he’ll be 11 this year.

The same with Braelynne and Gracie...thier numbers also equal 11.

Crazy huh?

Waiting for our new baby...

Today is 01-18-2011.  It is the day before Megan is going to the hospital for induction.  She and Corey are supposed to be at the hospital at 6:30 a.m. to begin UNLESS by a miracle she were to begin spontaneous labor.

Tonight we have Miss B spending the night with us and she has been wound up all night.  She is starting to settle down a little.  I think she is getting sleepy now.  I'm glad to have my girl here with me and I can't wait to hear from Corey and Megan in the morning.

I think we will all settle in for some sleep so we can be awake to here the events of the day tomorrow.

Abba, please keep your hand on the 3 of them, Megan, Gracie and Corey and keep them all safe as they travel in the early morning hours.  Also, keep Megan and Gracie safe as the doctors do what they will be doing.  Let Corey and Megan be a strength to each other as you strengthen them both.  Thank you for covering them Abba.

Instructions For Living

Instructions For Living   link

By Rabbi Noach Weinberg, ZT'L
At Aish.com

The battle for life is a battle for sanity.
The essence of wisdom is to know yourself.
The key to greatness is doing a spiritual accounting. Every day, set aside time to ask yourself: What am I living for? What do I need to change?
Infatuation is blind. Love is a magnifying glass. Who loves you more than anyone in the whole world? Your parents. Who knows your faults better than anyone in the whole world? Your parents.
Love is the pleasure of focusing on the virtues of another.
It is a greater pleasure to love than to be loved. So why spend so much energy on gaining the approval of others? Work on loving them instead.
The opposite of pain is no pain (i.e. comfort). Equating comfort with pleasure is the definition of decadence.
The Talmud says that every person must say, "The world was created just for me." That means each of us is responsible for the entire world.
The essence of free will is to choose to be a soul, not a body. The battle is to do what your soul wants, not what your body feels like doing.
We all want greatness. No one says, "I wish to be mediocre." Everyone harbors the secret desire to save the world.
Torah is not a history book. It is Toras Chaim – literally Instructions for Living, God's manual teaching on how to fulfill our potential and get the most out of life.
God is our father in Heaven. Like a father, all He wants is for us to get the maximum pleasure in life.
"I can't" is idolatry. If the Almighty helps us, we can change the world. And if He doesn't help, we can't do anything.
Happiness is choosing to take pleasure in what you have.
The natural state of every human being is joy. We learn how to make ourselves miserable.
When people say, "You'll grow up," what they really mean is, "You'll give up like I did."

Every effort is a success, even if you don't see the results.
There are no accidents. The Almighty is always sending us messages, and He's a very articulate teacher.
If you don't know what you are willing to die for, you haven't really begun to live.
If being good is worth dying for, then it is worth living for. And if it is worth dying and living for, then it is certainly worth enjoying.
